Wayside Flowers
The school applied for a contribution towards the cost of employing Liz Ashurst (textile artist) as Artist in Residence for the week of 13th - 17th June 2005 to work with the whole school (294 pupils, plus staff) on the theme of 'Wayside Flowers'. The aims of the project were to encourage an appreciation and positive attitude to conservation through observing local wayside flowers and trees, to learn how to record from first-hand observation through drawings and notes and to develop and improve drawing skills and the teaching of them.
Initial drawings were done in pencil and pen, focussing on line and shape. Larger scale versions were then produced using a variety of different media. Parents were encouraged to become involved with the initial research phase of the project. In total, the project comprised 25 workshops for the pupils, two INSET sessions and a final exhibition of work.
