Delighted by the response to the Borough's first Literary Competition, Elmbridge Borough Council and The R C Sherriff Trust are pleased to announce the winners. Inspired by the 'Eat Art' project at riverhouse Walton On Thames, the competition was open to four age categories and over 80 entries were received. Judged by three local professional authors, the entries were of an excellent standard and the judges were impressed by the many intriguing story lines. | The winners and runners up of the fourteen to eighteen years and the nineteen plus categories were presented with their prizes at a performance evening at Riverhouse, Manor Road, Walton On Thames on Tuesday 29 November. Local actors presented the winning pieces to an invited audience, and prizes were presented by the Mayor of Elmbridge Councillor Graham Winton. The winner of the nineteen plus category enjoys a complimentary meal provided by The Dining Room in Hersham and a trophy from the Bookstore, Walton on Thames who have supported the literary competition, along with book tokens and MP3 players for the younger winners. The winning entries in the five to eight year old and nine to thirteen year old categories were read in the Walton and Thames Ditton Libraries on Saturday 3 December 2005 at 10:30am and 12:00 noon respectively. A 'Storywall' exhibition, showcasing a selection of entries, ran in the Foyer of the Civic Centre from Monday 5 December until Saturday 10 December 2005.
