Journey's Beginning

Journey's Beginning was launched in 2006 with the aim of providing a showcase for recently-graduated artists and to bring art out of the galleries into unusual settings frequented by the general public.

We chose a number of sites not normally recognised as galleries: Brooklands Shopping Centre, Squires Garden Centre in Hersham and Garson's Farm in Esher. From the many entries the Selection Panel chose 6 young artists - James Bacchi-Andreoli, Karen Brewis, Danielle Drainey, Elizabeth Drysdale, Abigail Rawlins and Claire Rye - who, between them, provided a range of work in varied media which was exhibited at the various venues during the month of June.

As well as the exhibitions, three of the artists gave demonstrations of their art at Squires Garden Centre and Garson's Farm. The project culminated in a final group exhibition at the Robert Phillips Gallery in Walton during July.

"Journey's Beginning" received excellent press coverage and some very positive feedback from the public.
