Pytor Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s opera based upon Pushkin’s poem Yevgeny Onyegin premiered at the Imperial College of Music in Moscow in 1879.
The opera tells of young Tatiana, who develops from young girl to experienced woman and her infatuation with the nobleman, Eugene Onegin, whose aristocratic façade is pierced by love, but only too late.
