We offer quality Balinese and African workshops by experienced practitioners in schools and youth communities, that provide rich and stimulating experiences across 'the arts' involving music, dance, art, craft and design. | Just Trombones
Just Trombones comprise three trombonists who have 25 years experience of playing with professional orchestras in London and the provinces. As a trombone section, they work together with Glyndebourne Touring Opera Orchestra. They also perform with the London Mozart Players, and are involved with extensive education and recital work with that orchestra. All pieces of music played are short and cover a wide range of styles, including demonstrations on a hosepipe and sackbut. The pieces are very entertaining, educational and a lot of fun for the children. Children's participation is encouraged. Performances are adapted slightly in both duration and content to suit age. | ||

| Kala Arts
Kala the Arts workshops and performances of Indian dance, music and visual arts. Kala the Arts works mainly with primary and middle schools in south and south western regions. The work is mainly workshops and residencies, which raise an awareness and understanding of Asian Culture and Arts. The schools are offered workshops leading to performances where the pupils dress up in costumes brought by the company members. There are currently Sushmita Patel, the artistic director, Gudrun Martins and Gitanjali Praharaj leading the dance sessions. Ashok Patel works on the visual arts section making back-drops and sculptures with pupils. Surjit Singh brings a whole range of Indian musical instruments, which he teaches the children to play and perform. The company also offers performances by tutors where the pupils get to see professional dancers and musicians. | ||

Assembly: an informal introduction of Ghana and Africa in general, celebrating the differences and drawing strength in the similarities and diversity of cultures in the UK and contributions interspersed with rhythm clapping and music and hand jive. Storytelling: encouraging listening, participation, recall, discussion, retelling, either through drama, dance or performance of the story. Opening doors into another culture, exploring the hidden meaning of the morals of the story, drawing out citizenship, PSHE. Dance: improvised using space, gestures, facial expression and music from Africa generally. Retell stories. Music: texture, pitch, tempo, duration, composing, listening to African rhythms and drumming. Fabric Arts: Ghanaian traditional printing using Adinkra printing motifs on blocks, tie and dye, safe batik. The background of each art-form is explained. The children are allowed to have ownership and encouraged to fully participate actively as well as listening. | ||

Brian writes and edits poetry and picture books for children and resource books for teachers. Brian gives a mixture of workshops with individual classes and performances either with the whole school or separate key stages. Performances include chorus poems and a variety of percussion instruments to emphasize rhythms of poems. Pied Piper, the outreach company for the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre in Guildford, is funded by Arts Council England and supported by Surrey County Arts and Sure Start and offers performances in both schools and theatres. "The Town Mouse and The Country Mouse" is the next tour, running from October 2007 to February 2008. We offer original plays or adaptations of books. | The Story Tent
The Story Tent came out of Alistair Daniel's use of storytelling (as contrasted with story reading) as a taching strategy with young people with profound emotional and behavioural difficulties. The approach is participative, combining teaching and theatre skills, with tales whose telling is tailored to the age and ability range of the students. Students take roles themselves and puppets, masks, songs, actions, games and artefacts feature regularly. From the stories of 'Macbeth' and 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' to traditional folk and faitytails, each telling is supprted by printed mateirals for classroom use. Students ae also offred participarty workshops explaining storytelling, descriptive language story structure and Shakespeare's language. | ||
