The Elmbridge School Choirs Festival 2019 'Africa' with special guests Bantu Arts

Run in partnership by The RC Sherriff Trust and Elmbridge Borough Council, and the brainchild of Musical Director Jonathan Kilhams, The Elmbridge School Choir Festival is a friendly and encouraging way to get children singing.

The Festival underlines the benefits that music and the arts can bring to young people in matters of self-confidence, health, well-being and working together in partnership. Taking place in the magnificent Performing Arts Theatre at ACS Cobham, it has quickly become one of the biggest annual cultural events in Elmbridge.

Each year over 200 children come together and perform as part of a massed choir on collaborative pieces as well as the individual school choirs showcasing their own talent. The Festival is more than just a chance to for young people to sing! The music is carefully chosen to link with parts of the primary school curriculum and offers schools a unique experience. The music is carefully chosen to link with parts of the primary school curriculum with songs chosen to reflect these themes. Past topics have included Space, the Elements and Our World.

The 2020 Festival was due to take ‘RECYCLING/SAVE THE WORLD’ as it’s inspiration, encouraging songs about places and people as well as the different styles of singing that make music across the World so vibrant and exciting. Unfortunately due to the Covid 19 Crisis it was cancelled.

But the Elmbridge School Choir Festival WILL be back in 2021.
